The Sichuan Miyaluo Hydroelectric Station developed by Li County Jiaxing Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, is a run-of-river small-scale hydropower project in Sichuan Province, in the People’s Republic of China. Total installed capacity of the Project is 15 MW, consisting of three 5 MW turbines, an estimated electricity supply to the grid of 66,440 MWh per annum.
The project utilised the hydrological resources of the Zagunao River in a run-of-river hydro power facility that generated low emissions electricity for the Central China Power Grid. The electricity currently generated by the grid is relatively carbon intensive. The project reduced emissions of greenhouse gases by an estimated 64,782 t CO2e per year during the first crediting period.
The project is contributing to sustainable development of the Host Country. Specifically, the project:
-Increased employment opportunities in the area where the project is located (70people are permanently employed for the project operation and the construction of the projects secures jobs in the construction sector) thereby contributing to poverty alleviation;
-Enhances the local investment environment and therefore improves the local economy;
-Diversifies the sources of electricity generation, which is important for meeting growing energy demands and the transition away from diesel and coal-supplied electricity generation;
-Makes use of renewable hydroelectric resources.
