Waste heat based 7 MW Captive Power Project Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd (GPIL)

In the domain of Waste Heat Recovery Systems and Steel Plants, this was the first globally Registered CDM Project.

In this Project Activity we generate electricity not through conventional fossil fuel but by using waste heat flue gases emanating from other facility which is an adjunct to a mini steel plant. These hot gases produce steam by heating up water for power generation.

In this process we accomplish the following:

- We save coal to the extent required to generate 7 MW Power by utilising the heat content of the waste gases and hence conserve natural resources.

- We arrest thermal pollution, as had these gases not been tapped for power generation, would have heated up the neighbourhood with consequent environmental degradation.

- We eliminate fly ash generation by ensuring solid waste management techniques, and

- Curtail emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere amounting to an average annual CO2 emission of around 17,828.7 tons.

Overall the Project contributes to a sustainable industrial growth.
