The generated electricity is supplied to the southern regional grid of India through the nearest grid sub station and also wheeled to SRF’s units for their technical textile business (plants).The electricity generated from the Suzlon WTG’s is being supplied to the Udayathoor site sub-station and the electricity generated from the Vestas WTG’s would be supplied to the Veeranam site substation, through local transmission lines which are duly metered.

Contribution of the project to sustainable development

The contributions of project towards sustainable development is explained with indicators like contributions to social, economic, environmental and technological well-being aspects as follows:

Contribution to Social Wellbeing:

• Developing the local economy and creating jobs and employment, particularly in rural areas, which is a priority concern for the Government of India.

Contribution to Economic Wellbeing:

• The project is contributing towards the objectives of incremental capacity from renewable sources.
• Contribution towards reducing the electricity deficit in Tamil Nadu, through development of renewable technology.

Contribution to Environmental Wellbeing:

•  In wind energy generation, kinetic energy of wind is converted into mechanical energy and subsequently into electrical energy. The technology is a clean technology since there are no GHG emissions associated with the electricity generation.
• The Project is conserving natural resources including land, forests, minerals, water and ecosystems and leading to sustainable development of the country by reducing the dependency on fossil fuel.

Contribution to Technological Wellbeing:

• The project is involving the successful installation and operation of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) of Suzlon make. Increased interest in wind energy projects is further leading more R&D efforts by technology providers to develop more efficient and better machinery in future.
