4.5 MW wind power project of PCI Limited at Gujarat, India
0
The proposed CDM project activity involves the installation and operation of three Wind Electricity Generators (WEGs), each with a capacity of 1.5 MW, resulting in a total wind power generation capacity of 4.5 MW. These WEGs are strategically located in the Surajbari Creek, Village Jangi, Bhachau Taluka, Kutch District, Gujarat, one of India’s most wind-rich regions.
Each turbine is expected to generate approximately 3.4 million units (kWh) of clean electricity annually. The project contributes significantly to sustainable development by increasing access to clean power, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, cutting local air pollution, and providing employment to rural populations during both the construction phase and throughout the project’s operational life.
Contribution to Sustainable Development
The project contributes to sustainable development across four key dimensions:
1. Social Wellbeing
The project supports job creation during the construction and operational phases, offering both skilled and unskilled employment opportunities to local communities.
It leads to infrastructure development such as improved approach roads, enhancing connectivity and contributing to improved quality of life for residents in the surrounding areas.
2. Economic Wellbeing
The project stimulates economic activity in the region by creating direct and indirect employment and supporting local service providers.
It sets a precedent for further private sector investments in renewable energy, fostering long-term economic growth and supporting India’s clean energy transition.
3. Environmental Wellbeing
By generating electricity from a renewable source, the project reduces the need for fossil fuel-based power, thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
It contributes to the conservation of natural resources, such as coal, and enhances national energy security through diversification of the energy mix.
4. Technological Wellbeing
The project employs proven, safe, and efficient wind power technology.
Its successful implementation promotes the adoption of advanced renewable technologies and encourages further research and innovation in wind energy systems.
