5.5MW Bundled Photovoltaic power generation project in KOWEPO
2
Korea Western Power Co., Ltd (KOWEPO), a leading electric power company in the Republic of Korea, has developed a 5.5MW Bundled Photovoltaic Power Generation Project. This grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) initiative comprises four PV power plants with a total installed capacity of approximately 5.559MW (1,875.5kW, 1,500.0kW, 1,628.0kW, and 555.5kW). The project is designed to supply 7,563MWh of clean electricity annually to the Korea Power Grid (KEPCO grid).
In the absence of this project, approximately 7,044MWh of electricity would have been sourced from the KEPCO grid each year, primarily generated from fossil fuels. By displacing these traditional energy sources, the project significantly reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, contributing to the mitigation of climate change and promoting a cleaner environment.
Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development
The contributions of project activity towards sustainable development are explained with indicators like contributions to social, economic, environmental, and technological well-being aspects as follows:
Social Well-being: The project has bolstered local businesses and created employment opportunities, thereby uplifting the community. The development of essential infrastructure and enhancement of electricity capacity have promoted regional businesses and improved the quality of life.
Economic Well-being: This initiative has attracted investment to the region, fostering business growth and job creation. It has also improved the stability and reliability of the grid supply, which would not have been possible without this project.
Environmental Well-being: Utilizing solar PV technology to generate electricity reduces the reliance on fossil fuels, addressing the country's growing electricity demand and contributing to the reduction of GHG emissions.
Technological Well-being: The project diversifies the sources of electric generation, serving as a model for PV power plants that harness solar energy. It supports the revitalization of the local energy industry through cooperation with local governments and promotes the adoption of advanced renewable energy technologies.
