Operating since 2011, it has played an important role meeting country’s increasing demand of electricity, reducing CO2 emissions and contributing to the economic growth and sustainable development of local communities.

The purpose of the project “KOWEPO Small hydroelectric CDM Project in Taean” is to generate hydroelectric power by using the net head of cooling water drained into the sea. KOWEPO has established small hydro generators that uses sea water as cooling water and returns it into the sea.

The objective of the project is the generation of zero carbon emission electricity from a renewable source - hydropower.
