The Bundled Waste Processing Facilities project is a pioneering initiative in India’s journey toward sustainable waste management. Operated by IL&FS Environmental Infrastructure Services Limited, this project process capacity of 600 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) daily across three composting plants located in Punjab, Kerala, and Karnataka
Since its inception, the project has diverted over 1.2 million tons of waste from landfills, ensuring that biodegradable waste is treated through a controlled composting process. To date, the project has successfully avoided 6,93,551 tCO₂e of greenhouse gas emissions (2010–2020) that would have otherwise been released due to the anaerobic decomposition of waste in landfills.
Benefits Beyond Waste Management
The compost produced at these facilities is a lifeline for local farmers, helping to restore soil fertility that has been degraded by the overuse of chemical fertilizers. According to studies, a significant portion of India’s agricultural land suffers from low organic carbon content, impacting productivity. The compost generated from this project is a sustainable alternative, revitalizing the soil and supporting healthier crop yields.
By diverting waste from dumpsites, the project also reduces the risks of landfill fires, groundwater contamination, and air pollution. Methane emissions from untreated waste are a major contributor to climate change, and the Bundled Waste Processing Facilities project plays a key role in mitigating this environmental threat.
Addressing Community Challenges
Unmanaged waste is one of India’s largest urban challenges, leading to health, social, and environmental issues. This project creates employment opportunities for local communities, improves living conditions by reducing landfill waste, and provides access to clean, affordable compost for agricultural use.
Support Carbon Emission Reductions
The CERs generated by the Bundled Waste Processing Facilities not only mitigate methane emissions but also provide a replicable model for environmentally responsible waste management. Each credit represents a meaningful step toward combating climate change and improving urban sustainability.
Together, we can create a cleaner, greener future. By purchasing carbon credits from the Bundled Waste Processing Facilities project, you directly contribute to reducing emissions, improving soil health, and transforming India’s waste management practices.
