The Corredor dos Senandes CDM Project, located in Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, involves the development and operation of the Corredor dos Senandes wind power complex, comprising four wind power plants (WPPs) on the same site. The project has a total installed capacity of 108 MW. Each wind turbine has a unitary installed capacity of 2.7 MW, ranking among the highest for wind power plants in the country. This high-capacity design reduces the land space required for implementation, thereby minimizing environmental impact.
The project is expected to achieve an average annual reduction of 110,013 tCO₂ in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with total reductions of 770,090 tCO₂ over the chosen crediting period.
The primary objective of the project is to support Brazil’s growing energy demand, driven by economic and population growth, by expanding electricity supply through clean and renewable energy. In addition to generating income for landowners, the project stimulates the regional economy by increasing tax revenues for the local government and creating job opportunities for local workers and service providers. This economic boost enhances capital availability in the region, facilitating investments in infrastructure, productive capacity, and improvements in basic services, thus fostering a virtuous cycle of local economic growth.
During construction, the project created 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, with 40 additional jobs generated for the local community during operation. It also supported 700 families through the social initiative Rio Grande em Ação, which offers educational activities such as dance workshops, physical exercise programs, choir training, environmental education, tutoring, and educational lectures. Furthermore, the project contributed R$16 million in local tax revenue during the construction phase.
