Enercon Wind Farms in Karnataka Bundled Project – 30.40 MW
0
The project activity involves the development, design, engineering, procurement, finance, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 30.4 MW wind power project comprising 38 Wind Energy Converters (E-48 model, 800 kW each). Commissioned between 29 March 2006 and 29 December 2006, the project has an operational lifetime of 20 years and is connected to the Southern Regional Electricity Grid, thereby displacing fossil fuel-based generation. During the monitoring period from 01 January 2018 to 17 March 2020.By reducing reliance on coal-based power, the project significantly contributes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and promoting clean energy generation.
By mitigating an annual 69,430 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) emissions, this Project makes a substantial contribution towards realizing India's renewable energy objectives.
Contribution to sustainable development
The WWIL project goes beyond clean energy generation. It actively promotes sustainable development through:
Social Well-being:
Employment: Local technicians, engineers, and workers engaged in operation & maintenance.
Skill Development: Wind World Training Academy provides structured training on turbine safety, climbing, and maintenance.
Community Development: Indirect benefits such as better access to electricity in rural areas, improved air quality, and healthier living conditions.
Safety & Education: Strong emphasis on safety standards and capacity-building improves human capital.
Environmental Well-being:
Emission Reductions: Avoided 123,463 tonnes of CO₂ in the last monitoring period alone by displacing fossil fuel-based power.
Air Quality Improvement: Reduction in SOx, NOx, and particulate matter from avoided coal consumption.
Climate Action: Contribution to India’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement.
Sustainable Energy Source: Harnesses wind power, a clean and renewable resource, without water pollution or solid waste generation.
Economic Well-being:
Energy Security: Adds 30.40 MW of clean power to the Karnataka grid, reducing reliance on imported coal and fossil fuels.
