The project aims to provide clean electricity to the Central China Power Grid (CCPG) which consists mainly of fossil fuel-fired power plants and to help the grid to meet its growing energy needs. The implementation of the project also helps alleviate the heavy pollution and greenhouse gases emission of the CCPG and reduces the grid’s reliance on fossil-fuel based energy.

Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development

The additional contributions of project activity towards sustainable development are explained with indicators like contributions to social, economic, environmental and technological well-being aspects as follows:

Contribution to Economic Wellbeing:

• Creating short-term and long-term job opportunities in the project area during both periods of project construction and operation.

Contribution to Social Wellbeing:

• Increases government tax revenues which contributes towards local community development.

Contribution to Environmental Wellbeing:

• Displacing part of the electricity generated by coal-fired power plants, improving the local infrastructure, and thus, improving the local environment through reducing air pollutant and reducing overall greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
