The objective of the project is the generation of zero carbon emission electricity from a renewable source - hydropower.

The purpose of the project “KOWEPO Small hydroelectric CDM Project in Taean” is to generate hydroelectric power by using the net head of cooling water drained into the sea. KOWEPO has established small hydro generators that uses sea water as cooling water and returns it into the sea.

The Qinghai Maqin Gequ Level 2 hydropower station generates zero-green gas emission electricity through the application of hydropower and displaces the same amount of electricity from the Northwest China Power Grid (NWPG) that is mainly dominated by electricity derived from coal-fired power plants.
