The CDM project activity is of 7.2 MW wind energy based power project located at Nargund city of Karnataka state of India. The project activity is capable to generate approximately 18,228 MWh of electricity annually.
This power generated is exported to the “Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited” (HESCOM). The project activity avoids GHG emissions that would have otherwise occurred due to generation of electricity in the fossil fuel based power plants connected to the southern grid. The approximate lifetime of the project activity is 20 years and it is efficient to reduce 172,210 tonnes of CO2e per annum during the crediting period of 10 years.
Contribution of the project to sustainable development: The contributions of project activity towards sustainable development are explained with indicators like contributions to social well-being, economic prosperity, environmental well-being and technological aspects as follows:
Contribution of the project to Social Wellbeing:
The CDM project has lead to poverty alleviation by generating employment during operations.
Contribution to Environmental Wellbeing:
The project displaces fossil fuel emissions that would have occurred in the absence of the project activity due to power generation in the southern grid connected power plants. Thus, the project reduces the level of pollution as well leads to conservation of fossil fuel resources.
The project is a clean energy generation and has no negative impact on the health of the community or on the biological life nearby.
Contribution to Economic Wellbeing:
The generated electricity is fed to the grid of KPTCL/HESCOM. The injection of power in the local grid of Nargund improves the power quality in the local region (voltage level) to a certain extent. This is likely to promote all types of Economic, Industrial, Agricultural activity in the region increasing the mobility and overall the economic standards of the people.
Contribution to Technological Wellbeing:
The technology used in the project activity is clean technology and successful implementation encourages private entities and finance corporations to enter renewable power generation.
