The project activity involves the set-up of a wind farm of 50.4 MW in Gujarat, India. The 63 wind electric generators installed help to reduce GHG emissions and provide clean renewable power to the NEWNE regional grid. Some co-benefits of the project are the provision of job opportunities and communication facilities.
The project activity involves the setup of a wind farm of 50.4 MW at Jamnagar district, in the state of Gujarat, India. A total of 63 Wind Electric Generators (WEGs) of 800 kW capacity each are installed at the site. The project helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provides clean renewable power to the NEWNE regional grid.
The project activity consists of 63 nos. of Enercon make 0.8 MW WEGs totalling to a capacity of 50.4 MW. The WEG generates 3-phase power at 400V, which is stepped up to 33 KV. These WEGs are based on gearless technology, which helps to eliminate mechanical losses. It also combines the variable speed with variable pitch and hence increases the conversion efficiency. This technology is well established and running successfully at various sites in India.
The project activity provides direct and indirect job opportunities to the local population during construction of the project as well as during operation stage. The generation of employment alliviates the poverty in the local community and bring about a reduction in the disparity of income.
The infrastructure developed for the project activity benefits the local community. For instance, villagers use the roads built to connect the project sites. The project activity also improves the availability of electricity on the state grid and provides more opportunities for industries to establish themselves in the region. Communication facilities in the surrounding villages, which are in remote areas, have substantially improved too.
