Providing Peru with clean energy, since 2017 the Potrero Hydropower Project prevents nearly 100,000 tons of CO₂ emissions every year. By supporting this project, you help accelerate the global transition to renewable energy while creating lasting benefits for local communities.
The Potrero Hydropower Project, in the Cajamarca region of Peru, generates renewable electricity by harnessing the flow of the Crisnejas River. With an installed capacity of 20 MW, the plant supplies clean power to the National Interconnected Electricity System (SEIN), displacing fossil fuel-based generation.
As a run-of-river facility, Potrero operates without a reservoir, minimizing environmental impacts while delivering reliable renewable energy. The project ensures compliance with all national environmental and regulatory standards.
Sustainable Development Benefits
Employment opportunities for local workers during construction and operation.
Training and technical knowledge transfer, building local capacity of the local community.
Improved regional infrastructure and services linked to project activities.
Economic contributions through taxes and local business demand.
Contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
By purchasing CERs from Potrero, buyers offset their emissions while supporting a long-term renewable energy project with strong social and environmental co-benefits.
