Samryangjin PV Power Plant is a grid-connected photovoltaic power plant installed inside the unused land at the lower dame of Samryangjin pumping-up power plant in Kyongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea.
Korea Western Power Co., Ltd. is proud to present a 3MW Solar Photovoltaic Technology based power project that's not just generating electricity – it is generating hope for a greener, cleaner world. The project was advanced by stages as the Phase I, establishment of 2MW solar PV plants and the Phase II, establishment of 1MW plant, thus total installed capacity of the project becomes 3MW.
Thus, in the absence of the proposed project activity, about 2,340 MWh/yr of the electricity would have been supplied from the KEPCO grid during the monitoring period. This means that the clean energy produced in Korea benefits not only the local community but the entire region.
Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development
The contributions of project activity towards sustainable development are explained with indicators like contributions to social, economic, environmental, and technological well-being aspects as follows:
Social Wellbeing: Boosted local businesses and employment opportunities, uplifting the community directly and indirectly in Korea. Development of essential infrastructure and enhancement of electricity capacity has promoted regional businesses.
Economic well-being: The project activity has led to an investment in this region accompanied by business and employment benefits along with improvement of grid supply which otherwise would not have happened in the absence of project activity.
Environmental well-being: The project activity employs solar PV technology for generation of electricity thereby displacing fossil fuels which are being rapidly consumed to meet the growing demand of electricity in the country thus contributing towards reduction in GHG (Greenhouse Gases) emissions.
Technological well-being: The project diversifies sources of electric generation and is a model case as a PV power plant that utilizes solar energy. The project contributes to the revitalization of the local energy industry with the cooperation of local governments.
