The project activity is the implementation of a 5 MW solar photovoltaic technology-based power plant at IDP Pulivendula, Kadapa District in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. This project showcases the future of renewable energy, utilizing innovative CIGS (CIS) thin film technology to capture the sun's boundless energy. This remarkable technology not only powers homes and businesses but also demonstrates the viability of solar-based renewable energy generation in Andhra Pradesh.
The electricity generated is exported to the regional electricity grid, ensuring a constant and reliable supply of clean energy. This power is then sold to NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN) under a power purchase agreement, making a significant contribution to the region's energy sustainability.
The Power Plant is estimated to generate a substantial amount of clean electricity, reducing the reliance on conventional energy sources, and helping meet the region's growing energy needs.
Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development
The project activity contributes towards sustainable development in the following ways:
Social well-being: The project activity has led to development of infrastructure in the Kadapa District, and it is promoting business in this region through the improvement in electricity generation capacity of the grid.
Economic well-being: The project activity has led to an investment in this region accompanied by business and employment benefits along with improvement of grid supply which otherwise would not have happened in the absence of project activity.
Environmental well-being: The project activity leads to an estimated emission reduction of 7,933 tCO2e annually, thereby reducing GHG (Greenhouse Gases) emission and positively impacting the environment.
Technological well-being: The project activity uses thin film CIGS (CIS) solar photovoltaic technology for power generation, which is fed into the nearest sub-station (part of the Southern Regional Grid), thus increasing energy availability under the service area of the substation. Hence the project leads to technological well-being.
