Wind turbines generate electricity using the power of the wind, reducing the amount of fossil fuels that we need to use to generate our power, and therefore reducing the amount of greenhouse gases that we release to our atmosphere. Project benefits: preserving natural resources; promoting renewable energy; reducing dependency on non-renewable resources; and helping spread green technology worldwide.
Wigton Windfarm Limited also supports schools in the area as part of its social responsibility, including the adoption of the adjacent Rose Hill Primary and Infant School and plays an active role in supporting education through the building of a renewable energy resource center in 2010 where training courses are offered in renewable energy. Wigton Windfarm Limited has also embarked on a recent corporate social responsibility programme where scholarships and bursaries are given at tertiary institutions for students pursuing engineering and science in addition to providing laptops to needy students.
The Wigton Windfarm Limited also supports community farming. The company undertook rain harvesting water catchment tank repairs on the Wigton complex to assist the community farmers who conduct farming of livestock and cash crops such as sweet potatoes and carrots at a set-back from the wind turbine areas.
